2000 Hundai Elantra
For 2000, Hyundai became serious with catching more customers, and then keeping
them. But how can they do this if the standard features of the Hyundai Elantra
are very basic for subcompact cars? Aside from basic but quality features that
previous Elantras already have, the 2000 Hyundai Elantra is offered with complete
warranty. It also offered new standard features like deluxe cut-pile carpeting,
a deluxe center console, a tachometer, and a 6-way adjustable driver's seat.
For the 2000 model year, Hyundai re-introduced the GLS trim of the Elantra, after
having been gone for almost a year, but dropped the GL trim. It is now available
in two models: the Elantra GLS sedan and the Elantra GLS wagon. The features are
still very basic but quite decent for its price.

The power of the Elantra is boosted with an improvement in its engine: now still
a 4 cylinder engine but have a 2.0 liter capacity and produces 140 hp. It still
does not perform better than its high-cost competitors but it can provide ample
acceleration to pass other cars and can accelerate quickly from a stop. Noise
and vibration control are average, considering that it is a small car with 4-cylinder
engine.
The 5-speed manual transmission is once again the standard, which is the best
choice if performance is your top priority. The 4-speed automatic transmission
is available as an option. It comes with a fully independent suspension that is
sophisticated for its class. And unlike some cars of higher cost, it is equipped
with multi-link rear suspension, and a speed-sensitive power steering that is
sensitive for low speed driving but not too sensitive at high speeds.
Safety features stay the same for the Hyundai Elantra, which is sufficient enough
for the driver and the passengers. Comfort and convenience features are decent
considering its cost, and these features sees improvements every year. For 2000,
the sliding controls for the heater, ventilation and air conditioning were replaced
with rotary switches, which would benefit well the driver, as it will be easier
for him to control it while driving.
