1999 Hyundai Elantra
Since its major redesign, the Hyundai Elantra has been improving year by year,
and the 1999 model year is not an exemption. A restyled body, enhanced interior
features and a more powerful engine are some of the things that the 1999 Hyundai
Elantra has to offer. Amidst all these improvements and exciting new features,
Elantra has remained to be one of the lowest priced subcompact sedans in the entire
car industry.
For 1999, the Hyundai Elantra GLS was dropped, leaving only the GL trim available
as a sedan or a wagon. Although the GLS trim was dropped, most of its features
were placed in the GL trim. And for the year 1999, it gets a boost in power with
its new 2.0 liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine that produces 140 hp of power. It is
still available in either the 5-speed manual transmission or the 4-speed automatic
transmission. There is a vast improvement made in its automatic transmission,
the gear shifting becomes smoother now but not yet perfect.

The 1999 Hyundai Elantra now looks better both inside and outside. It received
a major redesign for its nose and its tail, making it look more elegant than ever.
The interior is now roomier and the standard features are extravagant for a car
priced so low. Air conditioning system, tachometer, tilt steering and tilt steering
column, and radio and cassette player are now standard features while cruise control,
CD player, and manual sunroof/moonroof are still optional features.
Safety features are still minimal but better than the previous models. The 1999
Elantra is now equipped with dual front airbags and child safety door locks together
with power windows and door locks. The ABS brakes became optional to the GL trim
as the GLS was dropped. It still lack a lot of safety features, like side air
bags, but is now more equipped than its previous models.
